I had a friend who dated at 20 year old and was 16. They cant really get caught unless someone’s parents are dicks and are uncomfortable with it. It really doesnt matter

Yes, it is. Unfortunately, the law doesn’t care about love.

Most places, it is not the difference in age that counts, it is the age of the younger partner. Once you cross the magic age (the age of consent) you can have sex without it being illegal. It doesnt matter how old the other person is.

Check your state law, but 17 is probably ok.

Shes 17 which isnt considered an adult. Hes over 18 so its illegal. If shes 18 or over then its fine. Basically shes not considered an adult and he is.

According to the old thumbrule, 21 and 17 fits the formula
(a man should choose a woman half his age plus 7 years),
but I think that formula was intended for men when they’re ready
to start looking for a wife, which generally isn’t at 21. So wait until you’ve reached the age of majority. Most places, 17 is still a minor.

No, it is not, if in canada. The age of consent in canada is 16, or a difference of under 5 years. anyone over the age of 16 can consent to any sexual activities and anyone under 16 can consent to any sexual activities with someone no more than 5 years older than them. Makes you wonder about some sick stuff but thats how the law goes.

Im not sure about in the us, I believe its only based on if the person is over 18. Which kinda makes you wonder if people were dating before with a small age gap, then one turned 19 and suddenly they couldn’t date cause of that law. Kinda messed if you ask me.

There is no law on "age difference". By dating do you mean having sex? Because if they aren’t having sex, it isn’t illegal. If they are having sex, then it depends on where they live. State laws on the age of consent for sex aren’t the same in every state.
