I guess the main question I have is can the guy ask out girl A, and then B (if A doesn’t work out) and would he still be able to be friends with both of them and would the girls still be best friends after dating the same guy?

The key is to not break up friendships.
When you get between two girls are their friendship it is always SOUR.
maybe it depends on their personalities
