Is there really a difference between online dating and online friends?

friends dating
Thomas S asked:

Obviously there’s the ‘love’ things, but realistically, you are making a commitment, to a person you do not know. Besides which, saying you have an online bff, is just about as nerdy as saying you have an online girlfriend. I mean, can you really throw online dating aside as some terrible thing, but then have, technically, ‘fake’ friends?

Don’t get excited, I’m not trying to say they are bad things. I have online friends.

Thomas…you have to realize that people you meet online are real people…and that you can actually meet them in person. I have.
It’s not terrible at all…just what you make out of it…and another problem you can encounter is some people that are fake and have the mentality that online is a make believe world.
I think it’s a great way to meet people you would have never possibly have met.

there has to be a purpose for an online relationship, I have met couples that are now married and couples that never worked out that met online, so…

yes there is a difference, and no you don’t have to go around telling people about it, just keep it to yourself if you wish or tell very few people who will support you on this, but again i tell you, if there is no purpose then why bother…

well actually there’s a difference between online dating and online friends. online dating means you are interested to a person that you wanna know more about him/her if you are compatible to each other or not. while online friends means you are interested to know him/her but not the whole personal details is needed..

I wouldn’t call them fake friends. I know people who met online and were in ‘relationships’ , but soon actually met and got married. I’ve also met most of my online friends as well. It either works for some people or it doesn’t.

Most online friends for me are actually a lot better friends than ones I know in real life.

If you know the online friend a lot, you consider them basically a friend even if you don’t know them in reality. Lots of people have met up through social networking. Online dating and girlfriends/boyfriends are just one step up from Online friends, I find that if you fall in love with someone it doesn’t matter where they are in the world.

So really, there is a difference, you just need to find it.
